Eleanor Jones
Eleanor is a Cornwall based textile designer creating handmade tufted rugs and textile pieces full of colour, texture and movement. Influenced by the beauty found in nature, shifting landscapes and natural pigment, her work explores layered surfaces and soft tonal transitions through tufting, natural dyes and experimental colour processes.
Working mainly with wool, Eleanor combines hand tufting, carving and dye experimentation to create tactile pieces that feel immersive, atmospheric and completely one of a kind. Each rug is carefully handmade and finished in her studio, balancing playful colour with rich texture and a strong material-led approach.
Alongside experimental textile work, Eleanor also creates bespoke rugs and interior pieces designed to bring warmth, personality and softness into a space.
Each rug is handmade using a tufting gun and stretched backing fabric fixed onto a frame. Working from the back of the cloth, I gradually build up colour, texture and shape through tufted wool and pre-dyed yarns. A big part of my process is experimenting with colour placement, layering and how different fibres interact together to create movement across the surface.
Once tufting is complete, every piece is carefully trimmed, carved and hand finished to refine the texture and shape. No two rugs are ever exactly the same, which is something I really value within my practice.
Based in Cornwall, my work sits between interiors, craft and contemporary textile design. Inspired by natural pigment, abstract landscapes and shifting colour found in nature, I create tactile, atmospheric pieces designed to feel personal, immersive and full of character. Alongside experimental textile work, I also take on bespoke rug commissions and continue developing my practice through collaborations and exhibition opportunities.
